Heroes on Board

Therapeutic riding can provide veterans with a holistic and multi-dimensional form of therapy that addresses their physical, emotional, and social well-being, ultimately promoting healing and improved quality of life.

  • Physical Benefits: Riding a horse requires the use of various muscles and promotes core strength, balance, and coordination. For veterans who may have physical injuries or disabilities, horseback riding can serve as a form of physical therapy, helping to improve mobility and flexibility.

  • Emotional Regulation: Interacting with horses has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and symptoms of PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). The rhythmic motion of the horse can have a calming effect on the nervous system, promoting relaxation and emotional regulation.

  • Sense of Control and Confidence: Learning to ride and work with horses requires communication, trust, and assertiveness. For veterans who may have experienced a loss of control during their military service, working with horses can help them regain a sense of control and confidence.
