FOUNDED IN 1998, Morning Dove Therapeutic Riding, Inc. is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization offering equine-assisted activities and therapy services to a wide range of child, adolescent and adult participants with physical, cognitive, behavioral and/or emotional disabilities. Morning Dove is a Premier Accredited member of the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, International (PATH) and employs PATH-certified instructors to facilitate its services. Morning Dove serves over 120 students each week, 42 weeks each year from the greater Indianapolis community.
We offer hippotherapy services in partnership with St. Vincent Pediatric Rehabilitation Services. Therapeutic riding programs taught by PATH International certified therapeutic riding instructors are offered Monday - Thursday. We also offer a broad array of equine facilitated learning programs, including workshops, field trips, camps and semester long programs. In 2017, Morning Dove introduced it's newest program, Lead Changes, serving at-risk youth in our community.
Morning Dove also participates in Indiana Special Olympics, which offers equestrian sports training and athletic competition in an Olympic-type sport for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. In 2014, Morning Dove hosted the US Special Olympics equestrian team for team training in preparation for the 2015 Special Olympic World Games.
New participants are referred by current families, physicians, therapists, or find Morning Dove by word of mouth. After an initial assessment by one of our PATH-certified instructors, goals are established for each rider. Riders participate in weekly group sessions which include learning about horses, grooming, and mounted activities. Sessions are carefully planned with specific cognitive, physical, and social goals for each participant, so progress can be tracked and lesson plans can be adjusted to meet each rider's individual needs.
Morning Dove has grown in 20 years to a well-established, nationally recognized therapeutic riding center. Today, we serve over 120 riders and their families each week,40+ weeks per year. Exciting things are in the works for our future as we build new capacity to serve our growing community!
